The proposal responds to the desire to develop an environmentally sustainable, zero-carbon, mixed-use project centred on a Museum of the Environment, and including another three buildings; apartments, hotel and offices, as well as incorporating commercial, leisure + educational facilities.

Just one more piece of the puzzle.

The solar garden hides a big secret. Using the undergound cool water deposit and the enforced wind movements, we manage to creat a huge cooler machine that manages to reduce the ambient temperature in under the solar panel up to 15°C.
The roof garden provides the building a thick blanket of mass insulation and creates pleasant areas to enjoy the gardens, bars and views.

The complex is set within a park designed to promote use of the outdoor spaces and pedestrian or cyclist circulation between the distinctive zones or buildings, and there are green spaces incorporated onto the rooftops and into the facades and interiors of the buildings. A large area of solar panels, in addition to providing the whole complex with more than sufficient electricity and hot water, creates a large shaded park likened to a huge shade-house, where one could comfortably be on a hot summer's day and where a central stage provides a place for community, social and cultural activities. Integrally the proposal combines tradition and technology, responsibility and will to create a harmonious, beautiful and luxurious group of interrelated spaces and buildings, a futuristic proposal to regenerate, simplify and celebrate good life.

It is a project designed for the individual users to comfortably interact in community in a low energy-use sustainable environment; it is a project of buildings highly adapted to their specific use; it is a high quality urban project for the sustainable future of Doha.
The volume is a flattened spherical shape, like an embedded disc arising from the subsoil. The roofís two surface textures trace an interrupted, pseudo spherical, composite map projection of the worldís oceans, a representation of the Goode Homolosine ocean map, the area of which is an opaque roof that protects the interior against sun and the harsh north-westerly wind, the Shamal.
Between the smooth opaque sections there is a deep cellular ceramic construction, so formed to permit a high level of natural and adjustable illumination and ventilation while avoiding the direct entry of sun or views. This modular filter element is refrigerated with water, the porous material absorbing and retaining the water and thus cooling the air as it enters the building.

Wind circulation
The apartment and office buildings are planned around a large internal atrium, displaced to the western façade that enables the whole building to breathe with the natural circulation of fresh air, which can be controlled in each of the private spaces as well as the public space.
The accessible roof top garden acts as natural insulation to the building. Raised internal courts within the atrium are repeated every three floors, from which an open stair connects the two upper floors overlooking the circular court, its central garden and fountain.
The museum is organised on two large circular floors, with a combined area of 72.500m², interconnected by a large round hole in the centre, through which a wide ramp gently spirals. Projection screens, world globes or other objects are hung in the central void. In the upper floor this void is surrounded by an amphitheatre of terraced spectator seating. Six stair, lift and service cores are distributed radially in the museumís plan according to its six-point geometric design.
The hotel's compact volume tilts slightly towards the south to reduce incident solar radiation. The plan is elongated for three reasons: firstly to reduce the southerly surface area exposed to the hot midday sun; secondly, this elliptical plan enabled the clear resolution of a highly functional plan, where all the rooms are located along the eastern façade, enjoying the best sea, city and port views of Doha. The eastern façade is very porous while the western façade is, conversely, very closed. Lift use minimisation to reduce energy consumption was the third factor in the implantation of a horizontally orientated building configuration.
